Stuart Hirst was born in Bradford in 1950. He is a professional artist based in Saltaire near Bradford. After a foundation year at Bradford Art College he studied at Exeter Art College where he gained a degree in Fine Art. The pursuit of fresh air and exercise lead me to begin exploring the hills of Yorkshire and the mountains of the Lake District. I try, whenever possible, to capture, photographically, the natural beauty and majesty of these stark landscapes.

The power of nature, light and shade, never cease to amaze me. I enjoy editing the images in photoshop – roughing them up a bit to remove the starkness of pure focus – but never changing colours or shapes and somehow not losing any of the natural drama.
